Additional steps for admitted students
Set up your KU Online ID and email address
Log in at this link and follow the instructions to obtain your assigned KU online ID and email address, set up account security, and create additional email aliases. You'll need your 7-digit student ID number (KUID) — not the username you used to apply online — you can find it at admissions.ku.edu/status.
Pay or defer your enrollment deposit
International students beginning classes for the Summer and Fall 2027 term and beyond will be required to submit a $375 enrollment deposit confirming their spot at KU. You'll be able to pay or defer your enrollment deposit starting in mid-September. The enrollment deposit must be submitted before you can begin your immigration documents. The latest deadline to submit your deposit is June 1, 2027.
Get your immigration document
Once you have submitted your enrollment deposit, you will receive an email from International Support Services inviting you to complete forms in the iHawk system. International Support Services will help you determine if you require an I-20 or DS-2019 immigration document for the student visa and can prepare either document as appropriate. Learn more about obtaining your immigration document. Review additional steps for applying for a visa and pre-arrival.
Learn about Orientation
International Student Orientation includes two parts: an online pre-arrival program and a multi-day, in-person session. The programs are required and helps you prepare for life at KU and in the United States. .
Plan for on-campus housing
If you plan to live on campus, the Housing & Residence Life application will open in November. Applying for housing does not commit you to KU; it places you in a room selection lottery group based on your admission and housing application dates. To receive a group number, students must apply for housing by May 1. Room selection begins in mid-May. For details and the timeline, visit the housing website.
Provide official transcripts
Before you can complete the admission process and enroll, you must provide International Admissions with official transcripts from every educational institution you have attended. These original documents must display your name, a school seal, and an administrator’s signature. Transcripts must be in the school's native language and come with English translations. All documents you submit become KU property and will not be returned or forwarded. Transcripts may be sent electronically by a legitimate document delivery service, such as Naviance or Docufide, or sealed and mailed.
