Destination KU is for admitted high school seniors who are first-generation college students or students of color.

What to Expect

This free event will help you get a head start at KU and includes:

  • a financial aid workshop
  • early access to recourse that will support your success at KU
  • lunch on campus with KU faculty and staff
  • information fair with student support programs from across campus
  • a chance to meet your future Jayhawk classmates
  • session on Exploratory Pathways to help you determine the right major

EVENT DETAILS?

*Students who attend Destination KU and register for orientation before or at the event will get one complimentary guest pass that allows the student to bring one guest for free to KU orientation later this summer. Orientation sign-up opens on February 1st.

*Additionally, students who apply for housing at (or prior to) Destination KU will be among the first to pick and choose your residence hall during room selection time! Students will also have a chance to win other prizes and KU swag at the event, plus head home with a KU t-shirt.

HOW CAN I PREPARE?

Take a look at our Exploratory Pathways! The pathways are designed to help you find a major that is the right fit for you. They will be offered as sessions at the event. Prior to registering for the event, be sure to determine which you are most interested in!

To fully participate in the Financial Aid workshop and help rooms, we recommend filing the 2019-2020 FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) before attending the event. If you have questions prior to the event, find out who your Financial Aid counselor is and reach out.

If you plan to register for Orientation at the event, the Office of First-Year Experience recommends having your KU Online ID and password handy! (To set this up you'll need the student ID number listed on your admission letter, or you can find it in the system where you check your application status. When you log-in on-screen instructions will walk you through the process of obtaining your assigned KU Online ID and email address, as well as setting up a password, challenge questions, and additional email aliases.)
