- “My favorite KU memory is…”
Walking through the Campanile! It was so surreal to have that experience with my very best friends, who are still my best friends today. As you’re walking down the hill, you start to reflect on everything you’ve accomplished…I realized just how quickly four years had gone by. It was the most incredible experience!
- “I became a Jayhawk because…”
I wanted to have a unique experience that was different than anything I’d ever done. Going to school 500 miles away from my family and friends was nerve-wracking, but there was something about KU that made me feel at ease. The orientation experience, the gorgeous campus, and the multitude of organizations available to incoming freshman helped me to transition very quickly into college life. I became a Jayhawk because I felt comfortable, even so far away from home. I can’t imagine being anything else!
- “I’m most proud of…”
My KU degree! The college experience in Lawrence is one that is challenging, exciting, and most of all, one that prepares you for life outside of college. Through my professional experiences after graduation, I’ve leaned on my KU degree to get me through tough assignments at work or things that weren’t easy at first. Earning my degree from KU was such an honor, and it’s truly propelled me forward into my adult life.
- My best advice for college students:
Get to know your professors!!! Don’t be afraid to meet with them during office hours… I was nervous my freshman year to request a meeting, but once I finally started doing this, it made everything in class more relevant. Trust me, your professors want to meet you!
- My guilty pleasure:
Wheel pizza with honey
- What’s your favorite spot on campus?
Potter Lake is a really special place on campus. I walked by it so often to head to class, and I never truly experienced it until my senior year. A group of us decided to have a picnic lunch by the lake. We talked for hours by that pond, and to this day that is one of my happiest memories at KU. Picking a favorite spot on such a beautiful campus is tough!
- What’s the best KU tradition?
Waving the wheat! I won't forget the first time I waved the wheat at a football game my freshman year. I'd missed KU traditions night due to sorority recruitment, so the first time I saw this tradition was in the stands at a real game! That moment when the crowd comes together to wave the wheat is one of the most exciting parts of being a Jayhawk.
- What’s at the top of your bucket list?
I’d like to visit every continent – I love to travel!
- What did you want to be when you were growing up?
A travel journalist… Who wouldn’t want to get paid to stay in a nice hotel and write about it?!
- If you had your own Big Jay outfit, where would you wear it?
If I could be Big Jay for a day, I'd definitely wear it to all the elementary schools in Dallas... As a former first grade teacher, my students fell in love with the Jayhawk but continuously asked: "Is the Jayhawk real?" I wish I could've shown up in the Big Jay mascot to show them - yes, Jayhawks are real!!!
- Where is the most unexpected place you've ever heard or said, "Rock Chalk"?
I’ve travelled to Europe many times, and almost every time I am abroad I see some type of KU shirt, hat, or sticker. It’s so fun to see and know that Jayhawks are all over the world!
