Kansas Qualified Admissions Curriculum

2015+

English: 4 units required

One unit taken each year of high school. One-half unit may be speech.

Natural Science: 3 units required

Complete three units during high school from the following, one of which must be chemistry or physics:

  • Biology
  • Advanced biology (second-year biology)
  • Earth/space science
  • Chemistry
  • Physics
  • Principles of technology
  • Physical science

Mathematics: 3 units required

Complete three units during high school from the following:

  • Algebra I
  • Geometry
  • Algebra II
  • Any course with Algebra II as a prerequisite
  • AND meet the ACT/SAT college readiness math benchmark (22+ ACT/540+ SAT on math section)

OR complete four units, with one unit taken in the graduating year. Three units selected from the following:

  • Algebra I
  • Geometry
  • Algebra II
  • Any course with Algebra II as a prerequisite

The fourth unit may be prescribed by the school district and must be designed to prepare students for college.

Social Science: 3 units required

Complete three units during high school from the following (coursework must include instruction in U.S. History, U.S. Government, and Geography):

  • Psychology
  • Economics
  • U.S. government (additional course)
  • U.S. history (additional course)
  • Current social issues
  • Sociology
  • Anthropology
  • Race and ethnic group relations

Electives: 3 units required

Students attending a Kansas high school must take courses approved by the Board of Regents to complete the curriculum. Approved courses can be found here.
Students attending a non-accredited or home-school can complete the coursework equivalent to the Board of Regents curriculum.”

Complete three units during high school from the following:

  • Computer/information systems
  • Foreign languages
  • Personal finance
  • Speech, debate, forensics
  • Journalism
  • Career and technical education
