Earning your place at KU

All applications are welcomed; assured admission is just one way to become a Jayhawk, and our individual review takes more into account. We encourage all students interested in the University of Kansas to complete an application, which will be reviewed individually by KU’s admissions staff. Our review covers these factors: cumulative high school GPA, ACT or SAT scores, GPA in the core curriculum, and strength of courses. Students who don’t meet the assured admissions requirements (below) will be asked to answer two to four short questions on the application, and responses will be included in the individual review. The priority application date is Feb. 1. The deadline for scholarships is Nov. 1.

One way to guarantee a spot at KU is by meeting our assured admission criteria:

  • 21+ ACT (1060+ SAT*) and 3.25+ GPA or 24+ ACT (1160+ SAT*) and 3.0+ GPA
  • AND 2.0+ GPA (2.5+ for out-of-state students) in a college-prep curriculum
  • If applicable, achieve a 2.0 GPA or higher on any college credit taken in high school

*All references to SAT scores refer to math and evidence-based reading and writing from tests taken after February 2016. For tests taken before February 2016 please use this table to convert your score.

Please note that meeting our assured admission standards earns you entry into KU’s College of Liberal Arts & Sciences; other schools and programs have their own requirements for admission, which you can find using the drop-down menu below.

Students graduating from a non-accredited or a home school must meet the above requirements.

Students 21 years of age and older do not need to submit standardized test scores as part of their application.

Students who have taken a high school equivalency exam or GED, click here for your requirements.
