for incoming freshmen from non-accredited high schools in Kansas
The School of the Arts' Film & Media Studies department admits first-year students. Prospective students who are interested in film and media studies must meet the school’s requirements.
  • ACT score of 21 or higher or an SAT score of 980 or higher, OR
  • rank in the top one-third of your high school class, OR
  • 2.5 GPA or higher on a 4.0 scale in the Kansas Qualified Admissions curriculum

Admission is competitive.

The Department of Film & Media Studies may have more rigorous and competitive admission standards than the university's general admission requirements:

To qualify for admission as freshmen, students graduating from a nonaccredited school or a home school in Kansas must submit a completed application with the $30 fee and meet the following requirements:

  • Achieve an ACT score of 21 or above or an SAT combined score of 980 or above on math and critical reading (verbal) sections.
  • Students who do not meet the test score requirement may submit qualifying GED scores to be admitted.
  • A high school transcript and ACT or SAT scores must be submitted for application to be complete.

To qualify for admission as freshmen, Kansas students with a GED must submit a completed application with the $30 fee and meet the following requirements:

  • Achieve an overall score of 2550 on the GED with minimum scores of 510 on each subtest. If the GED was taken before Jan. 1, 2002, the overall score must be 250 on the GED with minimum scores of 50 on each subtest.
  • Official GED scores and ACT or SAT (combined math and critical reading [verbal] sections only) scores must be submitted for application to be complete. Test scores are required unless you are over the age of 21.
  • Students who took the GED in Kansas should request that official GED scores be sent to KU from the Board of Regents GED page.

  • If you do not meet the test score requirement, you can submit qualifying GED scores to be admitted.
  • High school transcript and ACT and/or SAT scores must be submitted for application to be complete.
